CARRYING CATERING SERVICE KNIVES OFFSHORE

Recently a cook transported his personal knives offshore to a catering site. This practice is acceptable even though SONOCO furnishes knives. The baggage of the cook was searched at the heliport and the knives were found to be loose in his baggage.

The potential hazards to such an event are obvious:

  1. Declare ALL knives upon arrival to the heliport.
  2. The loose knife could pierce the skin of the baggage potentially cutting anyone handling the baggage including persons working at the heliport, fellow workers or the owner of the baggage.
  3. A loose knife poses a risk to the person removing them from the luggage upon arrival to the job site.

THINK OF YOUR SAFETY AND THAT OF OTHER PEOPLE. FOLLOW CORRECT PROCEDURES, SET POLICIES AND USE GOOD JUDGEMENT.

Make sure the knives are secure in a protective sheath inside your luggage to

prevent them from puncturing the baggage and possibly cutting someone.

All knives being returned to SONOCO, for any reason, must be secured

prior to placing them in shipping container.
